Portage Lake Postcards
Portage Lake Outlet, Dexter, Mich. Although unidentified, this view could be of the southern outlet from Portage to the Huron River, near the public launch site.
Portage Lake, postmarked 1908. An early panoramic shot of the Portage Lake area, taken from the southeast end, probably from the area now called Peach Mountain, this view shows Dexter-Pinckney Road in the foreground at the bottom of the slope, and the treeline that marks McGregor Road heading up the east shore of the lake between Portage and Base.
The writer of this card mentions that a young boy was getting “tanned” for not sitting still in the boat.
