Portage Lake Postcards
Portage Lake, Dexter, Mich., circa early 1900’s. The toys are typical of the early 1900’s. It does look like it was a beach totally enjoyed by some child of the time.
Portage Lake Pinckney – Mich, circa 1930-1950. I believe this to be a view of the canal that connects Little Portage Lake to Big Portage Lake. There is a diving platform on the seawall on the left, a man in a rowboat near shore, and a powerboat in the middle in front of the bluff.
I’ve dated this sepia-toned real photo postcard from the items found in the sandy beach.
After the circuit of Portage Lake views, we’ll return to Little Portage Lake to continue part of the journey to the village of Pinckney.
