Dexter Postcards

Mill Creek Bridge, Dexter, Mich., circa early 1900’s. In this early view of the dam by the bridge on Main Street, Dexter, the water rushes under the bridge. The view shows two young boys climbing on the bridge structure, and an early view of the business district of Dexter to the east of the bridge.

Huron River Dam, Dexter, Mich., circa 1940’s-50’s. Though this card is labeled Huron River Dam, I believe it to be the Mill Creek dam and the bridge on Main Street over the Creek.

Following Mill Creek upstream from The Huron River, you can see the spot under the bridge on Main Street where the dam once operated. The village of Dexter was platted in 1830 and incorporated as a village in 1855. There was once a mill on the northwestern shore of Mill Creek. At one time Henry Ford owned the land, but did not develop it. The Dexter Fire Department now sits on the land.
