Dexter Postcards
Main St. Looking West Dexter Mich., postmarked 1936. You can see that there’s a traffic light at Broad and Ann Arbor Streets. On the South side are businesses of: a meat market, a drugstore, a hardware store, and a Marathon gas station. There’s also an ice cream truck parked on that side of the street. On the north side is Connors Confectionary, Ann Arbor Dairy Co, Kingsbury Conoco station, a Ford dealership, and a Texaco station.
Dexter, Michigan, postmarked 1965. The caption on the back of this chrome postcard view reads, “Main Street Dexter, Michigan ‘Gateway to the Lakes.’” The Marathon station is still on the south side, Standard gas station replaces Conoco on the north. The building where the Dexter Bakery sits today is painted with a “Bakery” sign in this view, and a Frigidaire Dealership occupies the corner building on Ann Arbor/Broad Street.
The edge of Monument Park Looking West was a popular spot for photographs of the village of Dexter.
